Physical Education

Physical Education is a child-centred curriculum in Ardpatrick N.S. The strands of the Primary School Curriculum include: Athletics, Games, Outdoor and Adventure Activities, Dance, Aquatics and Gymnastics. As a school we ensure:

  • The importance of enjoying physical activity.
  • The importance of play in its many forms of the learning and developmental process.
  • Maximum participation by all children in the physical education lesson.
  • The development of skills and increasing understanding of activities.
  • Providing a balance between contact and non-contact activities.
  • Providing a balance between competitive and non-competitive activities.
  • Providing opportunities of achievement for each child.
  • Providing activities equally suitable for girls and boys.

Since engaging with the Active School Flag process, we have been involved in numerous partnerships within the locality and beyond, to give the students a wide and varied experience of activities and healthy eating.

Active School Week

Aquatics - Children receive 8 weeks of swimming lessons in Charleville Park Leisure Centre each year in term 3. 

Physical Activity

Our School is involved in a range of physical activity. These include; Hurling, Camogie, Gaelic Football, Girls Football, Bizzy Breaks, 10 at 10, Active minute, Walk as you talk.
We held our Active School Week from the 12th - 16th of June 2017. Each day stations were set up where children got the opportunity to actively engage in a wide variety of activities. Groups moved in rotation from station to station and were constantly active throughout.

During our Active School Week we also held our Annual Sport’s Day. Children and staff really enjoyed Active School Week.
Some highlights of the week were Gymnastics, Yoga, Wheel-chair Basketball and the most fun- Ardpatrick N.S. Fittest Family.

Motto

"Don’t be stuck inside all day, you should go outside and play" 

A competition was held in the school and Jane O Dwyer’s entry was chosen as the overall winner and now the motto we will use in our active school.

 

We had a very successful Active Week. Here are some of the activities we participated in (Full Gallery Bellow) .

As part of Active week, there were hikes up the hill/local Ballyhoura mountains and our annual Sport’s Day!.

During Active Week, the students took part in Gymnastics with Mary from Fit4Life.

The students really enjoyed Wheelchair Basketball with Joe Hargrow.
